Our commitment
Chelford Mobile Services wants everyone who visits www.chelfordmobileservices.co.uk to be able to use it — whether you use a keyboard, a screen reader, voice control, a screen magnifier, or any other assistive technology. We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.
We are not a large team and we do not claim full compliance — but we are genuine about fixing things that get reported to us.
What we have done
- Keyboard navigation: every interactive element can be reached and activated using the keyboard alone. A visible focus outline shows which element is focused.
- Skip to content: the first tab-stop on every page is a "Skip to content" link that jumps past the navigation.
- Labels on forms: every input on the contact form and site search has a proper label for screen readers, plus appropriate autocomplete attributes so password managers and browsers can help fill them in.
- Image alt text: all images on the site have descriptive alt text, or are marked as decorative where that is appropriate.
- Semantic structure: proper headings (H1, H2, H3) for outlining, landmarks (main, nav, footer), and ARIA labels where extra context helps.
- Reduced motion: if you have "prefers-reduced-motion" set in your operating system or browser, we disable animations including our typewriter heading effect, the thinking dots, float animation, and the animated gradient.
- Colour contrast: our body text meets WCAG AA contrast ratios in both light and dark modes. The brand red on white meets AA at 4.93:1.
- Language: the site declares
lang="en-GB"so screen readers pronounce content correctly. Our Welsh page declareslang="cy-GB". - Responsive & zoom: the site works at up to 200% zoom and on all screen sizes down to small mobile.
- Breadcrumbs: every page below the home page has visible breadcrumbs with proper ARIA labelling.
Known limitations
We are being honest about what we have not fully solved yet:
- Third-party widgets: the Trustpilot review widget and the Google Tag Manager script are loaded from third-party services and are not under our direct control. They may not meet WCAG AA in every respect.
- Interactive map: our coverage map on the Areas page uses Leaflet with OpenStreetMap tiles. Keyboard navigation within the map itself is limited. The map is supplementary — the full list of areas we cover is also available as plain text on the same page.
- Typewriter effect on the home page: the hero heading cycles through phrases using a typewriter animation. If prefers-reduced-motion is set we disable the animation, but the initial phrase may still appear before the motion preference is read.
- Auto-generated article structure: new articles are added through an automated pipeline. Occasionally the heading hierarchy within an article may skip a level. We review flagged issues when reported.
Reporting an accessibility issue
If you find anything on the site that is difficult or impossible to use, we want to hear about it so we can fix it.
The quickest route is email: info@chelfordmobileservices.co.uk with "Accessibility issue" in the subject line. Please tell us:
- The URL or page where you ran into trouble
- What you were trying to do
- What went wrong (and, if it helps, what assistive technology or browser you were using)
You can also phone us on 07534 362 251 during business hours (Monday–Friday 07:30–16:30).
We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within two working days and to have a plan for the fix (or an explanation of why we cannot solve it) within ten working days.
Alternative ways to get what you need
If the website is not working for you, everything we offer is available by talking to us directly. Call 07534 362 251, email info@chelfordmobileservices.co.uk, or post to 14 Elmstead Road, Chelford, Macclesfield, Cheshire SK11 9BS. You will speak to a real person, not an automated menu.
Technical standards
This website aims to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 at the AA level. The site is built on Next.js and uses semantic HTML, ARIA attributes where appropriate, and CSS for visual styling that degrades gracefully in text-only browsers.
