Getting the number right — because the alternative is visible and embarrassing
Sizing luxury toilet trailer provision for events is one of those tasks where getting it wrong is immediately, publicly apparent. Too few cubicles and your guests queue — visibly, audibly, and with increasing frustration. Too many and you are paying for capacity that sits unused all evening.
The difference between those outcomes is not guesswork. It is arithmetic, informed by experience and adjusted for the specific characteristics of your event.
Our luxury toilet trailer configurations
Chelford Mobile Services provides luxury toilet trailers in two standard configurations:
2+1 trailer
Two female cubicles and one male cubicle with a urinal station. Each cubicle features a flushing toilet, hot and cold running water, mirrors, quality lighting, and a finished interior that is a genuine step up from a standard portable toilet.
Comfortable capacity: Up to 100 guests for a standard event duration.
3+1 trailer
Three female cubicles and one male cubicle with urinal stations. The same specification and finish as the 2+1, with the additional capacity that larger events require.
Comfortable capacity: Up to 200 guests for a standard event duration.
These capacity figures assume a typical event of four to six hours with alcohol served. They are starting points — several factors push the numbers up or down, and understanding those factors is the difference between comfortable provision and a queuing problem.
Factors that affect the numbers
Event duration
Duration is the single biggest variable after guest count. A two-hour drinks reception generates far less toilet demand than a twelve-hour wedding that starts with the ceremony and ends at midnight.
- Under 3 hours: You can push the upper end of the capacity range. The event is over before cumulative usage becomes an issue.
- 4 to 6 hours: The standard range applies. This covers most evening events, dinners, and celebrations.
- 8 to 12 hours: Reduce the capacity per trailer by twenty to thirty percent. An all-day wedding with an evening reception generates significantly more total usage than a four-hour party, even if the peak demand at any given moment is similar.
- Multi-day events: If the trailer is serving guests across two or more days, mid-event servicing is essential. We schedule this during quiet hours.
Alcohol consumption
Alcohol increases toilet usage by approximately thirty to forty percent compared to a dry event. This is a well-documented effect in event sanitation planning and it is consistent across event types.
A 100-guest event with a free bar running from afternoon into the evening will generate toilet demand equivalent to 130 to 140 guests at a non-alcoholic event. Plan accordingly.
Beer and wine-heavy events generate slightly higher demand than spirits-focused events, simply because of the greater fluid volume consumed.
Male and female attendance split
Female guests use toilet facilities more frequently and for longer than male guests. The industry data is clear on this, and it is the reason luxury trailers provide more female cubicles than male.
Events with a higher proportion of female attendees need more provision:
- Hen parties, bridal showers, women's networking events: Increase the female provision by twenty percent or add supplementary standard units
- Stag parties, predominantly male events: The standard ratio is usually sufficient, though adding a urinal block near the bar is effective
- Mixed events with equal attendance: The standard trailer configurations are designed for this split
Season and weather
Both extremes of temperature increase toilet usage. Winter cold drives more frequent visits. Summer heat increases fluid intake and consequently increases demand. Spring and autumn are the most predictable seasons for planning purposes.
Outdoor events in cold weather also see clustering of toilet visits during breaks in the entertainment, as guests take the opportunity to visit the warm, heated trailer interior.
Sizing by event type
Weddings
Weddings are our most common luxury trailer booking, and the sizing is well-established:
- Up to 80 guests: 2+1 trailer. Comfortable for a full-day wedding with evening reception.
- 80 to 150 guests: 3+1 trailer. Handles the ceremony, wedding breakfast, and evening party without queuing issues.
- 150 to 250 guests: 3+1 trailer plus supplementary standard portable toilets for overflow and distant areas of the venue. The luxury trailer serves as the primary facility; the standard units provide additional capacity.
- 250+ guests: Multiple trailers or a combination of trailers and standard units. At this scale, contact us to discuss the specific venue layout and guest flow.
Corporate hospitality
- Board dinners, client entertainment (up to 60 guests): 2+1 trailer. The quality of the facility reflects the quality of the event.
- Company parties, awards evenings (60 to 150 guests): 3+1 trailer. Handles a full evening event with alcohol comfortably.
- Large corporate events (150+ guests): Multiple units or a mixed provision of luxury trailers and standard units, depending on the event format and venue.
Milestone celebrations
Birthday parties, anniversaries, retirement celebrations, and similar private events follow the same sizing ratios as weddings. The key variables are the same: guest count, duration, and alcohol provision.
Supplementing trailers with standard units
For events at the larger end of the capacity range, a mixed approach often provides the best balance of quality and cost:
- The luxury trailer serves as the primary toilet facility for guests — positioned prominently, well-lit, and clearly signposted
- Standard portable toilets provide overflow capacity, staff facilities, and provision for distant areas of the venue
- An accessible unit ensures inclusive provision for guests with mobility requirements
This approach gives your guests a premium experience at the main facility while ensuring adequate overall capacity without the cost of multiple luxury trailers.
Power and positioning requirements
Luxury toilet trailers require an electrical connection for lighting, hot water, and heating. Options include:
- Venue mains power: The simplest and cheapest option where available. We bring the necessary cabling.
- Generator hire: Where mains power is not available or not sufficient. A small, quiet generator is positioned near the trailer and runs during the event. Generator hire is a separate cost, typically fifty to one hundred and fifty pounds for a weekend.
Positioning requires firm, level ground — the trailer is delivered on wheels but must be stable and level for the duration of the event. Vehicle access is needed for delivery — a route wide enough for the tow vehicle and trailer.
