The honest answer depends on what you need them for

Planning lead times for portable toilet hire vary enormously depending on the type of event, the time of year, the number of units, and the complexity of the logistics. A standard construction site toilet can often be arranged within a day. A fleet of luxury trailers for a summer wedding needs to be booked the better part of a year in advance.

This guide gives you realistic timescales for different scenarios, so you can plan with confidence and avoid the scramble of last-minute booking.

Construction sites: 24 to 48 hours

For standard construction site portable toilet hire, we can usually deliver within one to two working days of your order. Our stock levels are maintained for normal demand, and a single unit for a domestic or commercial site is a routine booking.

If you need a toilet urgently — a new site starting tomorrow morning, an unexpected contractor mobilisation, a unit on an existing site that has been damaged — call us and we will do our best to accommodate same-day delivery. Whether we can depends on our schedule for the day and available stock, but we prioritise urgent requests because we understand that site work does not wait.

Long-term construction projects should ideally book at the planning stage, but the reality is that most site managers call us when groundworks are about to begin. That is perfectly fine. We are set up to respond quickly.

When to book earlier for construction

  • If you need multiple units (five or more), give us a few days' notice to ensure availability
  • If you need a welfare unit rather than a standard portable toilet, book at least one to two weeks ahead
  • If the site is remote or has difficult access, allow time for a site visit before committing to delivery logistics

Weddings: 6 to 12 months

Summer wedding dates across Cheshire and Shropshire are fiercely competitive. Every venue, every caterer, every photographer, and every portable toilet hire company is fighting for the same Saturday slots between May and September.

If your wedding is on a Saturday in the summer months, book your toilet provision as soon as you confirm the venue. Twelve months ahead is not excessive — it is standard practice. Six months is reasonable but leaves less room for manoeuvre if your preferred unit type or configuration is in demand. Two months is cutting it fine, and you may find that the specific units you want are already committed.

Winter weddings

Winter dates have significantly more availability. Booking three to four months ahead is sensible and usually sufficient. That said, the closer to Christmas you get, the more compressed the calendar becomes.

What to book for weddings

Luxury toilet trailers are the most popular choice for weddings, and they are the units with the most constrained availability in peak season. If a luxury trailer is important to your wedding plans, that is the booking to make first.

Standard portable toilets for supplementary provision — overflow units, accessible units, staff facilities — are more readily available and can be confirmed later in the planning process.

Festivals and large events: 3 to 6 months

Organising a festival, agricultural show, community event, or large public gathering requires significant logistical planning, and toilet provision is part of that infrastructure. Book at the same time as your other site services — staging, power, fencing, catering — rather than treating it as an afterthought.

Three to six months' notice is appropriate for events expecting more than five hundred attendees. This gives us time to plan delivery logistics, confirm the quantity and mix of units (standard, accessible, urinals, luxury trailers), and coordinate servicing for multi-day events.

Very large events

For events with several thousand attendees or more, engage us as early as possible in your planning process. At that scale, the quantity of units required may exceed our individual fleet capacity, and we may need to coordinate with partner suppliers to deliver the full provision. Early engagement gives us the best chance of assembling the right fleet for your event.

Private parties and garden events: 2 to 4 weeks

A garden party, birthday celebration, anniversary gathering, or similar private event typically needs two to four weeks' notice. This gives us comfortable time to confirm availability, agree the delivery details, and schedule the unit into our delivery calendar.

Weekend dates in summer are busier than midweek, so earlier booking provides greater certainty. If you are planning a large garden party (fifty or more guests) on a Saturday in July or August, three to four weeks' notice is advisable.

Emergency and same-day hire

Sometimes the need for a portable toilet is genuinely urgent and unplannable. A domestic plumber discovers a problem that means your home's toilet will be out of action for days. An event moves location at the last minute. A unit on a construction site is damaged beyond use.

We handle same-day requests regularly. Call us in the morning and we can usually deliver within a few hours, subject to stock availability and our delivery schedule for the day. Afternoon calls are harder but not impossible.

We do not charge a premium for urgent delivery. The hire rate and the service are the same whether you booked six months ago or six hours ago.

The practical advice

The earlier you book, the more certain you can be of availability — particularly for specific unit types, luxury trailers, and peak-season weekend dates. But we understand that not everything in life can be planned months in advance.

If you need portable toilets and you have not booked yet, call us. We will tell you honestly whether we can help and how quickly. No judgement, no pressure, just a straight answer.
