When you need toilets and you needed them an hour ago
Not everything in life can be planned. A new contractor turns up on site a day ahead of schedule. An outdoor event relocates at short notice. A domestic plumber opens up your bathroom floor and discovers a problem that means your only toilet will be out of commission for the rest of the week. Your existing hire company fails to deliver as promised.
In each of these situations, the need for a portable toilet is immediate. The question is whether a hire company can actually respond that quickly — and whether the urgency will cost you more.
Can we really deliver the same day?
In most cases, yes — provided you call us in the morning.
Our delivery schedule is planned the day before, but we build flexibility into every day's route. We maintain buffer stock specifically for urgent requests, because we know from experience that same-day needs arise regularly. If we have a suitable unit available and a gap in the schedule, we can usually deliver within a few hours of your call.
Afternoon calls are harder but not impossible. It depends on our route for the day, the distance to your site, and whether we have a suitable unit loaded on the vehicle. If we can do it, we will. If we genuinely cannot, we will tell you immediately rather than making promises we cannot keep.
What makes same-day delivery possible
- Our depot holds stock specifically reserved for urgent bookings
- Our delivery routes are planned with built-in flexibility
- Our drivers carry the equipment needed to set up a unit without a second trip
- We prioritise urgent calls because we understand that the need is real
What makes it difficult
- Bank holidays and weekends — we operate Monday to Friday for standard deliveries. Weekend emergencies are handled case by case, but availability is more limited.
- Our entire fleet deployed — during peak season (summer weekends, major local events), stock is sometimes fully committed. We will tell you honestly if this is the case.
- Very remote locations — if the delivery distance is significant, same-day may not be feasible for afternoon requests.
What to tell us when you call
When you need a toilet today, time matters. Having the following information ready when you call speeds up the process significantly:
- The delivery address and postcode: So we can assess the distance and slot it into the day's route.
- The access situation: Gate width, driveway length, any height restrictions, any weight limits on the access route. If we arrive and cannot get the vehicle in, the delivery does not happen.
- Where you want the unit positioned: On the driveway, in the garden, at a specific point on the construction site. The more specific, the better.
- Whether someone will be on site to receive delivery: We need someone present to confirm the positioning and provide access if the site is secured.
- How long you need the unit: A weekend, a week, a month, open-ended. This does not affect same-day delivery, but it helps us plan the servicing schedule from the outset.
The more information you give us upfront, the faster we can respond. A call that provides all five pieces of information can be processed in minutes. A call that requires three follow-up conversations to clarify the address and access will inevitably take longer.
Is there an extra charge for urgency?
No. We do not charge a premium for same-day delivery. The hire rate, the delivery arrangement, and the service standard are the same as for a booking made weeks in advance.
We would rather help you solve a problem at the normal price than profit from your urgency. This is not altruism — it is good business. A customer who calls us in a crisis and receives fair treatment becomes a customer who calls us first next time.
Common same-day scenarios
Construction site — no toilet on day one
A site manager realises on Monday morning that the toilet provision was never arranged. Workers are on site, the project is underway, and there is no facility. This is our most common same-day request and the easiest to fulfil — a single standard unit delivered to a construction site with good access.
Domestic emergency — home toilet out of action
A plumbing emergency, a bathroom renovation that starts without a replacement being arranged, or a sewage problem that renders the household toilet unusable. A portable toilet on the driveway provides immediate relief while the problem is resolved. These hires are typically short — a few days to a couple of weeks.
Event — last-minute change of plan
An outdoor event that was relying on venue facilities discovers those facilities are inadequate, unavailable, or out of order. A wedding venue's septic tank fails the day before the event. A festival adds a stage area that was not in the original toilet provision plan.
Event same-day requests are the most challenging because they often involve specific unit types (luxury trailers, accessible units) that may have limited availability. Standard portable toilets are almost always available at short notice; specialist units may not be.
Hire company failure
Your existing hire company fails to deliver as promised. The unit does not arrive, the service visit does not happen, or the unit delivered is in unacceptable condition. You need a replacement, and you need it today.
We handle these situations regularly. One call, one honest conversation about what we can deliver and when. No questions about who let you down or why — just a practical solution to an immediate problem.
When same-day is genuinely not possible
If our entire fleet is deployed and we have no available units, we cannot help — and we will tell you immediately rather than stringing you along. Honesty saves time for both of us.
If this happens, we can usually suggest when a unit will become available (often the following morning) and offer to prioritise your delivery first thing.
The best approach
Call us. Do not email, do not fill in a website form, do not send a text. If you need a portable toilet today, phone 07534 362 251 and speak to us directly. We will give you an honest answer within minutes — either we can help and here is when it will arrive, or we cannot and here is when we can.
Chelford Mobile Services provides same-day portable toilet delivery across Cheshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, and Greater Manchester wherever stock and scheduling allow.
