Practical advice for event organisers and site managers. No fluff.
Oldham is a Pennine town with grit, ambition, and an events calendar that reflects both. The Oldham Coliseum Theatre, Alexandra Park, and the annual Saddleworth Rushcart and Whit Friday band contests create distinctive demand for portable toilet hire. Add substantial regeneration activity across the town centre and you have year-round requirements that Chelford Mobile Services meets with direct, dependable service.
Oldham straddles the Pennine foothills, combining a proud mill-town identity with serious regeneration investment. The town centre masterplan is driving construction activity, while the cultural programme and events across Alexandra Park, Tandle Hill, and the Saddleworth villages keep the community calendar full year-round. This is a borough with genuine geographical range — from the urban density of the town centre to the open moorland above Saddleworth, the hire requirements are as diverse as the landscape.
The Saddleworth villages add a dimension to Oldham's hire profile that no other borough in Greater Manchester can match. These Pennine communities — Uppermill, Delph, Dobcross, Greenfield, and Diggle — maintain traditions that date back centuries and host events that draw visitors from across the country.
The Saddleworth villages have their own distinctive events calendar that operates almost independently from the wider Oldham programme. The Whit Friday walks bring brass band contests to every village simultaneously — requiring portable toilet provision at eight or more locations on a single evening. The Saddleworth Show, held at fields above Uppermill, is one of the premier agricultural events in Greater Manchester. The Yanks weekend commemorates the American soldiers stationed in the area during the Second World War.
Each of these events takes place in a village setting with narrow streets, limited parking, and no mains sanitation infrastructure at the event sites. We coordinate multi-site deployments on compressed timelines and manage the logistics of servicing units across scattered Pennine locations.
Delivering portable toilets to Pennine village squares and moorland event sites is not the same as servicing a city-centre car park. The roads above Saddleworth are steep, narrow, and exposed. Moorland tracks can be muddy, rutted, and inaccessible to conventional vehicles. Winter conditions above 300 metres bring ice, snow, and wind that affect both delivery and unit performance.
We have the vehicles, the crew experience, and the local knowledge to handle this terrain. Our drivers know the back routes through Saddleworth, the turning points on moorland tracks, and the seasonal conditions that affect access to higher ground.
Oldham's town-centre regeneration is creating significant demand for construction welfare. The masterplan includes new residential developments, commercial schemes, public realm improvements, and transport infrastructure — all generating welfare hire requirements. Beyond the town centre, suburban residential development across the borough adds further volume.
We supply HSE-compliant welfare vans for major construction and regeneration sites, and individual portable toilet units for domestic projects. Every hire includes scheduled servicing and waste documentation.
We deliver, service, and collect with our own team across the entire Oldham borough — from the town centre to the highest Saddleworth moorland. No subcontractors, no third-party logistics, no excuses. Direct service and direct accountability — every time.
