No upper limit, no minimum, no rigid contracts
There is no upper limit on how long you can hire a portable toilet. We have clients who hire for a single weekend and clients who have maintained the same hire continuously for several years. The practical considerations shift with duration — pricing, servicing, fleet management, seasonal adjustments — but the core service remains the same throughout.
This guide covers the different hire durations, what changes as the timeline extends, and how we keep the arrangement flexible enough to work for you regardless of how long you need it.
Short-term hire: 1 to 7 days
Typical uses: Weekend events, short domestic projects, emergency provision, single-day gatherings, urgent construction cover.
Short-term hires are the most straightforward arrangement. The unit is delivered clean and fully stocked, used for the event or project, and collected afterwards. For hires under one week, no mid-hire servicing is needed — the unit arrives with sufficient consumables and tank capacity for the full period.
What to know about short-term hire
- The hire rate reflects the delivery and collection logistics rather than the duration itself — a one-day hire and a seven-day hire cost approximately the same
- The unit is inspected and fully prepared before delivery
- Collection is arranged for the first available day after your agreed end date, or earlier by arrangement
- There is no minimum hire period — if you need a toilet for one day, we will deliver it and collect it the next day
Medium-term hire: 1 to 12 weeks
Typical uses: Domestic renovations, bathroom refurbishments, short construction projects, seasonal events, self-build early phases, garden landscaping.
Medium-term hires are where weekly servicing becomes part of the arrangement. From the first full week, our service technician visits the unit on a scheduled day to carry out the full service: waste removal, interior cleaning, chemical treatment, consumable restocking, and mechanical inspection.
What to know about medium-term hire
- Weekly servicing is included in the weekly rate at no additional charge
- The weekly rate is lower than the equivalent daily rate on a short-term hire — longer duration brings better value
- The hire is flexible — extend if the project overruns, shorten if it finishes early
- Service visits are logged and documented for compliance purposes
- We can adjust the servicing frequency if site conditions or usage patterns require it
Long-term hire: 3 to 12 months
Typical uses: Major construction projects, housing developments, self-build projects through to completion, agricultural sites, seasonal venues, temporary compound facilities.
Long-term hires benefit from the most competitive weekly rates. The economics improve with duration because our fixed costs (delivery, collection, administration) are spread over a longer period, and the predictable nature of the booking benefits our fleet planning.
What to know about long-term hire
- The weekly rate drops further on hires exceeding twelve weeks
- Weekly servicing continues throughout, with no reduction in service standard
- We monitor unit condition more closely on longer hires — if wear begins to affect the facility, we replace the unit with a fresh one at no additional cost
- Seasonal adjustments are made automatically — chemical treatment, positioning advice, and servicing approach adapt to summer heat, winter frost, and the conditions in between
- Workforce changes can be accommodated with additional units or adjusted servicing frequency
Extended hire: 1 year and beyond
Typical uses: Permanent remote facilities, allotment sites, agricultural compounds, long-running construction programmes, rural workshops, event venues with year-round use.
Extended hires represent the most cost-effective weekly rate we offer. These are typically ongoing arrangements with no fixed end date — the hire continues until you tell us to collect, and the servicing continues weekly throughout.
What to know about extended hire
- The most competitive weekly rate, reflecting the long-term commitment
- Unit condition is monitored proactively — we replace units as needed to maintain standards, at no additional cost to you
- Some of our clients have maintained continuous hires for five years or more
- The arrangement functions essentially as an outsourced toilet facility — we provide the unit, the servicing, the consumables, and the maintenance; you provide the site
- Annual reviews can be arranged to ensure the provision still matches your needs
Flexibility at every duration
Plans change. Projects overrun. Events get cancelled. Budgets shift. Weather intervenes. At every hire duration, we build in the flexibility to accommodate reality:
- Extending the hire: The hire continues at the same weekly rate. No rebooking, no renegotiation, no new paperwork.
- Shortening the hire: Call us when you are finished and we collect within one to two working days. No penalties for early return.
- Pausing the hire: For seasonal operations that close for winter, we can collect units and redeliver when the season starts again, avoiding hire charges during the closed period.
- Changing the provision: Need an additional unit? Need to downgrade from a welfare unit to a standard toilet? Need to add an accessible unit? We adjust the provision to match your changing requirements.
The hire arrangement serves you — it is not a rigid contract that constrains your options.
Choosing the right duration
If you know the project timeline, match the hire to it. If you do not — and many clients genuinely do not know how long their project will take — start with an open-ended hire and end it when the need ends. Our flexible terms mean there is no financial penalty for uncertainty.
The only thing to avoid is repeated short-term hires when a continuous hire would be more efficient. If you know you will need a toilet for at least three months, booking a continuous hire from the outset gives you a better weekly rate than renewing a short-term hire every few weeks.
